Vaireseth walked between the lifelike Ivory statues with a lazy gait and gazed down at the giant black and white tiles he was walking on. Each statue was a perfect vision of the same handsome man dressed in various regalia to represent the positions of each piece that created a small army of his likeness. They were aligned like the most strict and orderly of armies, yet his armies were anything but orderly. Order had little say in his existence and if not for the rules of the game, it would hold no sway over this carved army either. Vaireseth held the deepest respect for Order in all its facets, he just had little use for the narrow and restrictive nature of it. He would spend his days on his own schedule of doing whatever, whenever, and wherever his fancy was tickled or his feet brought him.

His golden red hair hung long and unruly in his face and his full beard was a two foot long knotted and unkempt mess. Vaireseth’s clothing was vibrantly colorful and consisted of many different articles of clothing that had no business being together in terms of style or color. He would seem greatly out of place just about anywhere, thought a wandering gypsy or escaped circus performer, if the world around him did not reflect his exact vibrant color, vigorous sensation, and fancy free existence.

Vaireseth continued across the checkered tiles until he stopped suddenly a few before the center. He had reached the extent of his power and could venture no further. While he was kept from passing by a force more powerful and more ancient than he could possible fathom, which was an amazing feat as he himself were ancient by all accounts, his gaze certainly did not suffer the same restriction.

His eyes grazed the remaining parts of his side of the board and they passed beyond the invisible barrier into a dark world, one that seemed nearly black in comparison to the color and Life on his side. He never did enjoy looking into the drab existence that was coexistent with his own…but it was part of his role. His kind eyes finally met what they were searching for, a pair of dark, cold eyes piercing his soul.

The man opened his mouth to speak and a surprisingly young and jovial issued forth over his tongue and lips. “Hello Ava. Are you ready to begin?”

“My name is Avalinora, Vaireseth. I am indeed ready. Though I do not like the pieces I play with…I feel that Remtal is about to fail. After one defeat in over a millennia, he must…especially against this opponent.” Avalinora’s voice was harsh and coarse yet eerily seductive.

A mysteriously beautiful woman with incredibly pale skin stood opposite Vaireseth amidst troops of Onyx. However these figures were horrid and terrible in design, each depicting one particularly vile and powerful Illithid named Methankernal. Avalinora herself stood in sharp contrast to the figures around her. A long sparkling dress made from a pure starlit night hung loosely around her, barely holding onto her smooth shoulders. A long slit along either side of the dress traced upwards to her mid thighs tantalizingly. Her near waist length hair was flowing gently behind her as though it were caught in a perpetual breeze. Her intense eyes blazed in the darkness with the deep blue eye shadow only adding to mysteriousness of her beauty. (need to decide what color to make her lipstick and expand on description)

Avalinora held her hands out to her sides and the Onyx statues burst to life and prepared for attack. Following suit, Vaireseth did the same.

“Let us begin Vaireseth,” hissed Avalinora, “Remtal’s Death is finally at hand. And it could not have come soon enough.”

Vaireseth smiled and nodded, “Indeed. Let us commence. My move.”

Both of the players walked the battlefield intently and the pieces moved at a whim as the fate of the mortals on either side began to hang in the balance.

Far away through time, space, and existences, Methankernal could feel the strings of Fate being plucked ominously and he froze, his eyes grew wide with fear. Remtal had not been defeated in over 1000 years and he was already assured victory now. Methankernal steeled himself and prepared his defenses…Remtal advanced slowly…and smiled.

This stirs memories. And I dig Death's name.
